MY STORY OUR STORY

My Story - Our Story What story will you tell? Each of us, young and old, have an important story to share with the world. A story that will inspire us. A story that will change us. A story that will empower us. A single moment. Your moment. This is your story.

  Come tell your story!

WHY Story telling?

WHY give our youth opportunities to tell a story and become storytellers?

1. Stories convey values

At the heart of every story are the values we live and share. Through a story the storyteller weaves a story where they face a challenge and make a choice. This choice is reflective a developed or developing core belief or value.

2. Stories inspire action

Storytelling is the tool which inspires communities to action. When the storyteller shares their story, the challenges and chosen actions, they inspire actions in others. A collective action.

3. Stories help us make sense of our own challenges

  • A story of self: a personal calling / the personal why
  • A story of us: a collective calling / the collective why
  • A story of now: understanding our past in order to drive the future.

4. Stories show and communicate our best selves

When students become storytellers, they get an opportunity to learn about their best shelves and showcase greatness.

5. Teaching storytelling will help students become change agents

Storytelling connects student success and passions with their calling as a tool to demonstrate more authentically who they are as purpose-driven young leaders.

Access to a quality education is the core belief in storytelling. By becoming storytellers, students see the value in their life and the value of education – whatever that education looks like can be so very different for so many.

That’s a core belief we can all agree is important. But how do we come together and mobilize around this? Storytelling: a shared experience is between the storyteller and the listener. When you bring in the listener to a story this listener is placed in the experience of the storyteller where empathy, understanding and consciousness are generated.

NGA, Story Center, AND My First Story

It all started during the summer of 2018

The summer of 2018 I was honored to be chosen to take part in The Summer Teacher's Institute at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.

The focus of this summer program was to understand the power of digital story telling. This program inspired me. to my core. It showed me the power my words held and I instantly knew that this was something that I needed to bring to our students.

Here is my first story and two more that followed

Where is ALL started

Video story telling has been in my educational veins!

During the 2014 school year I created a digital afterschool program at our school called eLabs. It was a way to bring digital learning to my students in a creative way for them to be able to express themselves.

These are our stop motion movies that we created. This soon became a program with did with all the 5th graders at our school and we held a premier party at a local theater...with fancy clothes, a 'red' carpet, and photographers!
